Feeling Thirsty?
Even if you think you're on top of your water intake game, dehydration can set in quickly and happens more often than you might think. Plus, feeling thirsty isn't always the first symptom you notice, which makes it even trickier to spot. If you're wondering whether you might be dehydrated, here are five signs you need to drink more water.
1. Persistent Dry Mouth or Throat
Is your mouth feeling sticky and your throat parched and scratchy? If so, your body might be sending you signals to drink more water. You need to consume enough fluids to make saliva, so if you're skimping on your intake, it's no wonder why your mouth will feel like a desert.
2. Constant Headaches
Is your head always feeling heavy and achy? Even mild dehydration can trigger—and worsen—headaches and migraines, so make sure to up your water intake as soon as you start getting these symptoms.
3. Dark Urine
When your body is dehydrated, your kidneys will try their best to conserve as much water as possible, leading to dark, concentrated urine that often has a strong smell. If you notice this on your trip to the bathroom, make sure to drink some water right away.
4. Fatigue, Brain Fog, & Dizziness
Along with headaches and migraines, dehydration can make you feel lethargic, lightheaded, and unable to focus.
This can make it extremely difficult to tackle work and daily responsibilities, and take a toll on your productivity and energy levels.
5. Dry Skin
Dehydration can also cause dry, flaky skin, since your body lacks the moisture it needs. A good way to check if your fluid levels are normal is to pinch yourself on the back of your hand. If your skin doesn't immediately bounce back to its original shape, it's a clear sign you need to drink more water.
