5 Everyday Habits That Destroy Your Posture

5 Everyday Habits That Destroy Your Posture

Small Choices Can Add Up

Poor posture isn't something you're born with; it often develops gradually through ordinary habits that don’t seem harmful at first. When you keep up these bad habits, though, it can place unnecessary strain on your neck, shoulders, and back. Here are five that you need to pay attention to so you don't continue to destroy your posture.

1. Looking Down At Your Phone

Since everyone's addicted to their phones, that motion of constantly lowering your head to check your screen places extra pressure on your neck and upper back. This position over time can also cause your shoulders to round forward without you noticing.

2. Slouching At Your Desk

With so many people working at desks, sitting with your back rounded and your shoulders dropped can quickly become a daily routine. Unfortunately, poor desk posture can lead to stiffness, fatigue, and discomfort, especially after several hours.

3. Carrying A Heavy Bag On One Shoulder

Placing a heavy bag on the same shoulder every day forces your body to compensate for the uneven weight. It's not something you realize you're doing, but over time, you may begin to notice that you lean to one side or raise one shoulder higher than the other.

4. Sitting For Too Long

Whether you're in school, at work, or playing video games at the computer, sitting for several hours every day can weaken the muscles that support good posture. Your hips might become tight too, which can affect how you stand and walk.

5. Sleeping In An Awkward Position

Awkward sleeping positions can actually affect your posture as a whole. While you can't control how you fall asleep, choosing a pillow that’s too high or a mattress that lacks support may place your spine in an uncomfortable position.
