5 Signs You Need To Declutter Your Space

Are Those Knick-Knacks Controlling Your Life?

Everyone has a vice. Some of us collect mugs. Others collect vintage sweaters. Some people even have a stamp collection under their bed. While we all indulge in the odd trinket, there’s a difference between grabbing one or two versus burying yourself under junk. With that, it’s time we explored a few telltale signs you need to declutter.

1. It Takes Hours to Clean Your Space

Cleaning the bathroom sucks, but it shouldn’t take hours of your time. If you can’t clean your bedroom without working up a sweat, it’s likely cause for concern. Your home should be a safe space filled with items you love, not ones that eat up space.

2. You’re Running Out of Room

Oh, the mail is here! Maybe we’ll just put it on the table…nope. How about leaving it on the kitchen island? No, that’s also covered with stuff. How about the—end the madness! If you don’t even have space to put your thoughts, it’s time to declutter your home.

3. You Don’t Invite People Over

One of the worst feelings about a messy space is knowing people will judge you. Of course, this can lead to feelings of shame or simply avoiding having guests over. Your home should be a point of pride; decluttering can help you get your life back on track.

4. Feelings of Anxiety

Do you feel irrationally anxious being at home? Do you feel stressed just looking at your space? Both are warning signs that you’re in deep. Our bodies don’t like to feel overwhelmed, and even if you think it’s okay, your system will likely tell you otherwise.

5. Your Belongings Are Just “Stuff”

We’re not saying you need a connection to the toilet brush—but you should feel happy with your home purchases. Buy too many things or invest in duplicates, and suddenly, nothing brings you joy anymore. You deserve to feel different!
