From Heartache to Healing
Breakups are hard, but dwelling on the past will only make it harder to move on. Instead of wallowing in your emotions and cooping yourself up at home, there are better, healthier ways to heal. From picking up a new hobby to spending time with friends, here are five ways to take your mind off a breakup.
1. Pick Up a New Hobby
Whether it's hiking, baking, painting, or knitting, picking up a new hobby is a great way to take your mind off a breakup. Not only can these activities serve as perfect distractions, but you'll also be able to learn and build various new skills.

2. Focus on Self-Care
Breakups are hard, so if you need to set stricter boundaries for the time being or need to focus more on taking care of yourself, prioritize that. Go meditate, journal, watch a movie (or three), or reach out to a therapist if you need extra support.
3. Spend Time with Friends
Unless you truly need to be alone to heal better after a breakup, don't deliberately cut your friends out of your life. Plus, it's best to surround yourself with supportive people so you can laugh and feel happier during this period instead of isolating yourself.
4. Exercise
Another easy way to take your mind off a breakup is to get up and move! Whether it's heading to the gym or going out for a walk around the neighborhood, exercise can help release stress and boost your mood.
5. Travel
If staying in the same place brings up sad memories, it might help to travel and explore around. Taking a solo trip allows you to reframe your thoughts and perspective, and gives you a chance to form happier memories as you heal.
